Randy Abdallah, Instructional Technology Specialist and webmaster
at mhss.org put together randia.net as a website to honor the hard work
of the Manhattan High Schools District Office and to make available to
the New York City Educational Community the valuable resources they created
for administrators, teachers, parents and students. The Office of the Superintendent of Manhattan High Schools was responsible for 41 high schools serving approximately 42,000 students, including approximately 3,500 students with disabilities and approximately 7,000 English Language Learners. Their Mission The mission of the Office of the Superintendent of Manhattan High Schools was to provide an environment that will enable all students to meet the high standards and expectations needed to graduate as productive, caring members of society. To this end, every effort was made to provide resources for their schools that enhanced the process of teaching and learning. The community was brought into the instructional fabric in a multiplicity of ways. Business and community partnerships, parent involvement and thematic instruction that were connected to future careers and life-long learning, all important components needed to achieve this dynamic. Every effort was made to be bold in their designs to challenge traditional concepts and create contemporary learning environments that facilitated ongoing student centered support.
