A. BASIC FILE MANAGEMENT
1. CREATING A FOLDER
• on the desktop click the right mouse
button
• scroll down to NEW, and then click on FOLDER
• press the backspace bar, and type in a name for your folder
OR, from WINDOWS EXPLORER
• highlight the existing,.drive or folder where you wish to create a new
folder.
• Click on File, New and Folder, and type in a name for your folder
Understanding your drives:
A: Diskette
C/ D: Hard drive
E: CD-ROM
2. SAVING FILES
To Save a File:

• Select SAVE AS under
the FILE menu
• Click on the drop down
menu to display options
• Highlight the folder or drive where you want your document to be saved. (In
this example, it will be saved on the Desktop)
• Type a name for your document and then click SAVE
• As you are working important to SAVE often to save your latest changes.

B. CAPTURING IMAGES ON THE SCREEN
If you do not have a screen capture program, hit
the Print Screen key; this copies a bitmap of the full screen into the Windows
clipboard (a place in your computer's memory that temporarily holds image)
Alt + Print Screen will capture only the active
window.
Go to the application where you wish to paste
your image (or in a graphics editor program), and click on EDIT, PASTE

FROM THE WEB
You may wish to copy images from a website. To do this:
- Click on the right mouse button over the image you wish to save - Click on
Save Picture As - Choose the drive or location where you wish to save your
picture.

3. Conducting a Web Search - you can click on the links below to examine the search engines. Type in some arts sites you are interested in for example
Activity:

1. Think about the last lesson you taught. Find a website you think would help facilitate teaching that lesson.You can use one of the search engines above.
2. Use your evaluation sheet to analyze the site. If you think the site was successful tell why.
3. Get together with a another educator and discuss your findings.
4. Write down highlights of your discussion.
